OPTIPLANNING is an acronym for steps involved in starting a new venture. This process is typically used to help guide someone with little or no business experience through the phases of starting up their own company. The first letter of OPTIPLANNING stands for O - Objective; P - Plan; T - Timeline; I - Initiative; P - Product; L- Location, and finally the last letter S stands for Strategy. These letters are meant to be helpful reminders that each part of this process is necessary and one must not be considered over another. A lot of people associate "entrepreneur" with "young male. It should be noted that women are actively participating in starting companies in the United States. OPTIPLANNING is similar to PESTLE (P - people, E - environment, S - strategy, T - time) analysis in the sense that it rearranges the elements of starting up a business into a linear sequence. People are key to this process. An executive team must come together early on in the process and select an entrepreneur or entrepreneur-in-training (EIT). This decision may be difficult to make because not all aspiring entrepreneurs are suited for the role of CEO; however, one must decide on who will ultimately take charge of their venture. "People" are the most important element in this process. A great deal of time should be spent on selecting the right people to help you do all the work. You will need to become friends with your employees in order to make them feel comfortable working for you, and you will need to motivate them in order to be efficient. The last thing you want is someone who is lethargic or unmotivated during that early phase of starting up your business. Additionally, an executive team needs to recruit others into their team, which is most likely why they're looking at you during meetings! There are many different types of employees which can be used when starting up a business. You may decide to hire people with certain skill sets, for instance, an experienced accountant or an extra set of hands. You may also want to hire someone who has an idea that you are passionate about, or someone who will work well with others. The "environment" refers to the laws and regulations which apply to your business. The government can make it difficult for you. Know what laws are applicable to your business type beforehand, and make sure that you operate within these legal guidelines! The "time" relates directly to how much time each step takes. The timeline will outline which steps take more time than others, and if those steps should be done at the same time as others. The "initiative" relates to your initiative and willingness to do the work required for you to start up a business. No one is going to do it for you! You must take action and begin taking small steps toward reaching your goals. The "product" relates directly to the name of your business, or what type of product or service you are creating. A product could be anything from a startup company, small business, franchise, organization or even yourself! There are many different types of products that can be utilized when starting up a business.
